Just some weekend Llamas!

For some reason, this weekend, I felt completely inspired to enter a weekly Spoonflower competition. And what could be more fun than creating a cute Llama pattern! You can fave my design on Spoonflower here - every vote counts.

Lots and lots of painting!

I've been doing lots and lots of painting lately. I think I have re-discovered my love of old fashioned paint and canvas. It's been nice to step away from the computer for a while. Here are some recent paintings I have been working on.

Surtex

I am very excited about Surtex kicking off this month. My work will be displayed at booth #307 by the lovely people at Wild Apple Graphics.

If you are going to Surtex this year and would like to see more of my collections or would like to find out more about licensing my work, please feel free to pop in and say hello to the Wild Apple team.

It has been a miserable week in Melbourne with lots of rain and icy cold winds, so I have been locking myself away in my little studio with the heater on high.

Here are some new pieces I have been working on.

Twinsies!

Here's a little illustration I worked on today with no project in mind. I simply wanted to start drawing and see were it took me. It was really fun. Twins!

Wild Apple Graphics

It has been a very productive week with lots more collections being finalised for Surtex. My work will be displayed at the Wild Apple Graphics booth and I'm very much looking forward to hearing all the feedback from clients about my new collections. Here are some pieces from some recent collections I finished this week.

The Surtex rush in on!

It's that time of the year again. Surtex! With only a month to go, every artist I know is in a frantic rush to get as much work done as possible, including me. Today I have been putting some collections together from previous individual pieces I have worked on. It's been a bit of a mixed day with some watercolour painting, pencil drawings and vector based illustrations. All in all, it's been a productive day :)

Word Art Challenge!

I have been told that I need to do more word art but lettering is definitely not something I am particularly good at. You would think that being a Signwriter, I would ace lettering but no. I remember learning lettering at trade school and failing miserably. I always admired those old school Signies with their mahl sticks and paintbrushes, ticking out their letters and then painting them effortlessly. Lucky for me the 'imperfect' look is in! Here's my first 'word art' piece. I can see all those old school Signwriters shacking their heads at this!

Cat's in the Garden

My old black cat Diesel loves sleeping in the garden. We call him our little Panther. There are a few flat spots in the Alyssum where he likes to curl up for a nap. I have to be careful when I water. There have been a few times I have got the death stare from him because I've accidentally squirted him with the hose!

Here's a new piece from me today called 'Cat's in the Garden'. Not very original, I know but that's all I could come up with.

Little Sparrows

I'm signing off for the night with some little sparrows. Phew, it's been a big day. Good night all.

Pattern play

Well, it seems as if the sun has finally decided to submit to the rain and the cool Autumn breeze but that's no excuse for me to not to spend some time in my studio this morning. Today I am playing with patterns. I really like how the rabbit pattern turned out. I think this would look great as a print too!

A beautiful day!

It's such a beautiful day in Melbourne. I am in my little studio in the back yard with the doors and windows open, enjoying the autumn breeze and listening to the birds. Here's what I have been working on today.

Jennifer Nelson

Last week I had a Skype meeting with the lovely Jennifer Nelson. She is an agent who represents some of the worlds most talented artists. She has started a new branch of her business where she offers advice to artists. You can find more information here at Advice for Artists. I would highly recommend a chat with Jennifer if you have any concerns about a contract or would simply like Jennifer to look through your portfolio and offer feedback.

During my chat with Jennifer, we discussed my portfolio and strategies for getting my work out their to a wider audience. Her feedback and advice was constructive and invaluable. I came away with a list of things 'to do', not only in my work but on social media platforms. I feel extremely motivated and positive about my next steps forward.

Thank you Jennifer Nelson.

One of Jennifer's recommendations was to work on more florals. Here is one I have just finished. I have a few more in the pipeline and look forward to finishing them. You will see more floral pieces from me soon.

Floral Quotes

I did these floral quotes a while ago but I am a bit behind with updating my blog with my artwork, so here they are!

It's always a good time for Tea!

Here's a new collection I have been working on for my agents at Wild Apple. It's called Tea Time.
